Three New Year’s resolutions for your home (and you)

We don’t blame you if want to take it easy on the new year’s resolutions in 2021—after all, most of us are still worn out just from trying to survive 2020! But resolutions don’t have to be hard, especially when you’ve got the Patriot team behind you. And these three can help make the new year happier and even healthier.

  • 1. Make your water better.

Drinking more water is a common resolution, usually as part of a bigger “get healthy” goal. And that’s great—but we think it’s even more important to drink better water. That means making sure the water in your home is as good as it can be. You could install a filter on the kitchen faucet, or buy one of those water pitchers, but a whole-house filtration system from Patriot is the best way to get better water.

Filtering every drop of water that comes into your home means every faucet will have water that tastes better, because it is free of contaminants. If you add a whole home softener, it can also help your dishwasher, washing machine, and water heater last longer by removing minerals in “hard” water that can build up over time in appliances.

One more benefit? You won’t have to buy as much bottled water! You could even start making your own sparkling water with one of those CO2 machines, now that the water in your home is pristine. (Yes, those machines can make sweet soft drinks that taste great, too, but that doesn’t quite fit in with this whole healthy vibe we’ve got going here.)

  • 2. Change your HVAC filters.

Some people don’t pay any attention to their furnace or air conditioning until something goes wrong—and by that time, getting things working again can require costly repairs. Good maintenance is the first step to keeping your heating and cooling systems in strong working order, and it starts with changing your filter regularly.

Note that we said “regularly,” instead of giving you a standard recommendation such as every three months. Why? Because you should check the filter each month and change it whenever it looks dirty. When your filter is full of dust and particles, the air in your home won’t be as clean, and what’s worse, it puts greater stress on your furnace or AC unit.

You can do this yourself, but at least once a year we recommend having one of our experts do it—as part of an annual HVAC checkup to make sure everything else is in good working order.

3. Get those small electrical projects done.

That 65-inch TV you just got looks amazing on the wall—except for the cord hanging down. Wouldn’t it be great to have a power outlet hidden behind it? We can do that, along with plenty of other projects that might seem small, but can have a big impact on everyday enjoyment. Want to put up holiday lights without dragging out the extension cords? We’ll put outlets under your eaves. Need some extra power in the garage, maybe for charging that new Tesla Santa brought? We’ve got experience with that, too. (The power part, we mean, not Santa bringing us a Tesla.)

We love doing the smaller projects, from dimmer switches and light fixtures to ceiling fans and more. So don’t hesitate to get in touch!Of course, we can’t make you get on the treadmill or kick a bad habit in 2021, but we can do a lot of other things. And the best part? With these resolutions, all you have to do is call us at 509-662-6262 and we’ll handle the rest!
